Utility Disc Golf
Utility Disc Golf is my personal brand built around a shared passion for the sport of disc golf. From the ground up, I designed and launched a direct-to-consumer e-commerce website to sell disc golf discs, while simultaneously building an engaged community through original content creation. This project sits at the intersection of brand identity, web design, digital marketing, and content strategy — all driven by a genuine love for the game.
The Challenge
Disc golf is a fast-growing sport with a passionate niche community. The challenge was building a recognizable personal brand from scratch that could authentically connect with disc golfers while also functioning as a legitimate e-commerce business. With no existing audience, no inventory system, and no budget for paid advertising, everything had to be built and grown organically through great design, compelling content, and genuine community engagement.
Brand Identity
The Utility Disc Golf brand was built around a clean, modern aesthetic that speaks to disc golfers who take their game seriously. The name “Utility” itself reflects the functional, no-nonsense approach to the sport — every disc in your bag serves a purpose. The visual identity features bold typography, a minimal color palette, and a logo mark that nods to flight paths and disc forms. The brand voice is knowledgeable yet approachable, designed to resonate with players from beginners to seasoned competitors.
E-Commerce Website
The Utility Disc Golf website was designed and built to serve as both an online store and a brand hub. The site features a curated product catalog of disc golf discs — including drivers, mid-ranges, and putters — with detailed flight charts, disc specifications, and recommendations to help players find the right disc for their game. The shopping experience was crafted to feel premium and intuitive, with clean product pages, easy navigation, and a seamless checkout flow. Every detail of the site was handled in-house, from copywriting and photography direction to UX design and SEO.
Content Creation
Content sits at the core of the Utility Disc Golf brand. I consistently produced original content covering disc reviews, course vlogs, putting tips, disc recommendations for different skill levels, and coverage of local and professional disc golf events. Video content was shot, edited, and published across platforms to grow an organic audience. Written content in the form of blog posts and buyer guides helped drive search traffic to the website. Every piece of content was crafted to provide genuine value to the disc golf community, not just push product.
My Role
As the founder and sole creator behind Utility Disc Golf, I was responsible for every aspect of the brand. This included brand strategy and naming, logo and visual identity design, website design and development, product sourcing and inventory management, e-commerce setup and optimization, content planning, production, and publishing, social media management, SEO and organic growth strategy, and customer service and community engagement. This project is a testament to what can be built with passion, creativity, and a willingness to wear every hat.
Outcome
Utility Disc Golf has grown into a fully operational personal brand with a live e-commerce store, a library of original disc golf content, and an engaged following within the disc golf community. The project demonstrates the ability to execute end-to-end on a brand — from the initial concept and visual identity through to content strategy, web design, and direct-to-consumer sales. It’s an ongoing venture that continues to grow alongside my passion for the sport.
