The Situation
The Disc Golf Pro Tour is the premier professional disc golf circuit in the world, a live broadcast operation with a real crew, real schedules, and no room for error. Over three years they brought me back across multiple roles as needed, from on-site camera operator to broadcast editor to remote photo editor. I was the freelancer they called when they had a gap to fill and the bar was high.
I worked with DGPT across three roles over three years.
As a live camera operator from 2021 to 2024, I was on-site at elite tour stops around the country running gimbal and manual focus rigs for broadcast coverage. Pre-production calls, assigned positions, live switching. Every throw happens once and you either get it or you don't.
In 2021 I edited the daily broadcast bumps for the US Disc Golf Championship. Each morning I built a recap of the previous day from live commentary audio and multi-camera footage, cut to a classical music score that was part of that year's tournament branding. Same deliverable, every morning, before the next day's coverage began.
For the Ben Askren pro-am I did more than show up and film. I came in knowing who Ben was: his Mental Mondays series, his background in sport psychology, his audience in wrestling and MMA. I connected that to what had happened at the Disc Golf World Championships the year before. Paige Pierce watched the leaderboard, played it safe, and threw out of bounds. Catrina Allen never looked at the score and birdied to win. James Conrad threw in a 240-foot shot on the final hole to force a playoff, flipping the momentum on Paul McBeth in an instant. I flagged the angle, it shaped the interview, and we captured the most compelling piece of content at the event in my opinion. The kind of story that travels beyond disc golf into sport psychology, wrestling, and MMA. Sadly this content was behind a paywall and is no longer available. But it was good and no one at the disc golf pro tour knew that Ben did Mental Mondays and were able to connect his background to disc golf in such a direct way.

In 2024 my role shifted to remote photo editing for the full tour season, culling thousands of frames per event, selecting and editing the images that told the story of each round, and delivering finished assets to players, sponsors, and fans within 24 hours.
The Results
Three-plus years of consistent callbacks at the highest level of the sport. Broadcast-ready footage delivered live across multiple seasons. Daily recap content produced under pressure and on brand for the US Disc Golf Championship. A pro-am interview that crossed over from disc golf into combat sports and sport psychology, reaching audiences the tour wouldn't have touched otherwise. And a full season of tournament photography edited and delivered on deadline, event after event, remotely.
